I took the plunge and recently participated in my first ever wedding styled shoot! I have seen these before on social media but had never experienced one myself.
To give some background on what this is, a creative or entrepreneur works with a local florist, bridal shop, venue, designer, and any others who can show off their talents and stages a pretend wedding with a real model couple. Then local photographers are invited to shoot and practice for their business. It’s a great way to harness your creativity and network with new people, not to mention show off your photos to attract new clients.
This event was so much fun! I knew one of my friends who is also a local photographer was going to be there, so it helped to know someone. For those out there who have never been behind the camera during a wedding, it can be stressful! This kind of shoot gives photographers the chance to take pictures at their own pace, work on their styling and posing, and get ideas for future wedding sessions.
Like any wedding, there were similar areas set up around the venue such as the ceremony and reception. The model couple was placed in certain places around the venue and then we, the photographers, were able to shoot at any angle. We were also able to make direction changes and ask the model couple to stand or sit a certain way so we could get the best picture possible. It was a little intimidating at first because there are several people shooting at once and it’s not hard to start comparing yourself to others. But once I began shooting, everything fell into place and I fell completely at ease, just letting my creativity flow.
All of the stylists, vendors and photographers were wonderful to work with and I look forward to being invited to another style shoot in the future! Enjoy these photos from the session!
