I turned 34 years old this year and I thought back to elementary school and who my friends used to be. I don't keep up with many of them anymore as time has passed. But one friend remains. I have been blessed to shoot her engagement photos, her wedding, and now she is expecting her first child.
Katy and I have been friends since second grade, and I am excited to document this next milestone in her life. I myself am expecting this year so it has been fun being pregnant together at the same time.
We ended up having to reschedule this shoot a few times. If you live in the southeast, you know how unpredictable the weather can be in the summer. However, we were able to finally schedule this shoot on a Sunday morning.
The family picked a nice spot down the road from their house near the old Hiwassee Union Church. The day started off very foggy but eventually cleared up and the sun came out.
We started with just some pictures of the mom-to-be and then added in her husband and son.
Since Katy is having a boy, I wanted to set up some cute baby shoes and show off her belly. While it was still cloudy, we were able to capture some pretty shots of her by the river. I also wanted to integrate her husband's hands and hers together while including her son's hands on the top of her belly so all members of the family could be included in the shot.
We all took a break from the sun which had come out by that time and took refuge on the porch of the church under the shade. It is always flattering to show off the mom-to-be sitting down, and I loved creating some really nice black and white images.
Before the shoot was complete, I was able to get a few more shots with both the mom and dad. And because we are both pregnant, we spent a few minutes cooling off our feet in the river at the end of the shoot. It was so nice and relaxing!
I am looking forward to seeing the Hicks family again when I shoot their hospital pictures in August :)
