I love to listen to the Beatles and all other types of music from that era. My parents brought me up on classic rock when I was a kid, and now it has officially gotten me as it is mostly what I listen to at home and in my car. The song, “A Day in the Life”, isn’t a very uplifting song; it’s kind of depressing. But when I was brainstorming what to title my new blog post, this song immediately came to mind. This is just my version of “A Day in the Life”.
Everyone likes to get to know who is behind the camera. If he or she lives nearby, has any kids, another job in addition to being a photographer or if she or he likes chocolate chip over pistachio ice cream. So I’m going to give you a glimpse into a typical day around my house.
To start, I’m going to tell you a little bit about myself for those who still don’t know me. I was born and raised in the Chattanooga, TN area and have pretty much lived here all my life. I think it’s such a great place to raise your kids, which is why a lot of my high school classmates have stayed or moved back here to raise their families. My parents divorced when I was five years old and my dad remarried when I was seven. My two half-brothers came along when I was a teenager and now I am blessed to have siblings!
Both my grandfathers and my great-grandfather were always taking pictures, so for me being around a camera was constant. I guess it is just in my blood. I was fortunate to inherit their old cameras and they sit on my desk in my office as a reminder of how I got my start. My first film camera was my grandfather’s Nikon SLR he bought in Hong Kong in the 1980’s. I started taking photography classes in college and I spent many weekends in the darkroom by myself. I eventually turned my hobby into a business!
I later met my husband and we have been together for twelve years. We have two gorgeous children, Adam and Lauren, and he is a general surgeon in Cleveland, Tennessee where we live.
I enjoy watching classic movies like Hitchcock, and I am always reading a book! I really love to read biographies or non-fiction. My grandmother was always buying books even though she never got to read all of them. I have a coffee mug I bought at Monticello that has a quote from Thomas Jefferson: “I cannot live without books”. That is me in a nutshell.
My day usually consists of taking care of my children, keeping my house clean, doing volunteer work from home, and working on photography sessions after my kids go to bed (as I am writing this, I am staying up late to get some things done while they sleep!) My husband works long and unpredictable hours, so some days we don’t see each other.
My kids usually wake up around 7 AM and we start our day with breakfast. My daughter takes a mid-morning nap and we all eat lunch around midday. My son loves to get dirty and explore so I try to take him outside to play while my daughter naps. If I get a chance, I might get to work on my laptop while my kids play. As you can see, my laptop is surrounded by markers, coloring books and snacks. It’s not a very glamorous picture, but I just enjoy working at my kitchen table surrounded by my books and my kids’ stuff.
I try to sneak in some kitchen cleaning or sweeping while my kids eat or quickly put away clean dishes. Even if I have just a few minutes, there is always something to do! My kids play through out the day and watch some television. I love to cook so I try to make dinner as many nights as I can. After my kids eat dinner and go to bed, my husband and I will try to watch something together on TV or we will both work on the computer. (We share the same office, so I keep my headphones on so he doesn’t have to hear my music.)
I love my life and my family, and I especially love taking pictures! I hope you have enjoyed learning a little bit more about me and getting a small glimpse into my everyday!

I love that you have your grandfathers old film cameras & think it’s so cool that’s how you started! What a special thing to be able to have!
That made me exhausted just reading it! What a full life! I’m a photographer and I have 3 kids, so it definitely sounds like my life right now! So fun.
This blog will really help your clients or perspective clients get to know you better as a person and feel a connection with the gal behind the lens.
I love that you have that connection to your grandfathers. So special! And your day looks very similar to mine. Mama first, but love making time for all things photography
I also love classic movies and a good book!! Thanks for sharing, I enjoyed reading your post 🙂
