The start of summer has been somewhat different this year. Not just here, but around the country. Normally, we would have all been out enjoying the gorgeous warm weather in May, gearing up for graduation and celebrating our seniors as they move forward in their futures.
But the pandemic that has been sweeping across our world has put a hold on some of these things. However, it’s important that we show off our high school seniors as much as we can and that means going out with a bang with a summer portrait session.
It was an absolute joy working with Taylor! She is such a natural in front of the camera! We have had some unpredictable rain here in Tennessee as is always the case in the summer, but after moving her session up by a few days, we had the most gorgeous weather! I always include two outfit changes in my one hour session and Taylor brought some cute ideas! I kept telling her I wish I was that skinny again, LOL!
One of my favorite places to shoot in Cleveland is Black Fox Farms. They host weddings and are also a wholesale nursery! I love gardening so just walking around the grounds looking at all the plants and flowers they grow makes me happy. If you caught my earlier blog post on why you need a senior portrait session, you know that I find out a senior’s favorite music and make a playlist just for them while I’m shooting! (If you haven’t read my post on senior sessions yet, click here!)
The first area I love to start with at this venue is the gravel driveway. It has a long line of trees and it’s great for backlit photos and shading, especially if the sun is still high in the sky. We later moved on to where some of the outdoor greenhouses are and got some pictures among the plants.
This farm even has a lake and an old looking house! It makes for some great photos and there are always so many places to choose from around the grounds! For any senior session, I send out a questionnaire so I can find out a little bit more about my seniors!
I learned so much about Taylor! She was a varsity football and wrestling cheerleader, was a member of FCA and Spanish Cub in high school, and she is planning on getting her degree in nursing. Taylor’s best advice for your senior session is practice makes perfect! She told me that if you have never had your pictures taken before, to practice by taking selfies of yourself or look in a mirror to find your best side. Sometimes you may have to do poses that feel awkward but don’t fret! Those poses make for the best pictures. Really let your personality show because it shines in the pictures!
I wish Taylor all the best for a bright future and I know she will make waves next year wherever she is! Congrats to the Class of 2020!
