Couples Session | Charleston, SC | Tennessee Portrait Photographer

I’ve been wanting to capture a couples session in Charleston, SC for as long as I can remember. I love reading about history and Charleston is at the top of my list of most interesting cities in our country. I have seen the exhibit with the H.L. Hunley, original Civil War submarine and been on some tours and ghost hunts in the past.

We traveled to the area for our family summer vacation in September, and I was eager to explore the city again.

I constantly see all of these pretty engagement sessions and weddings on the Instagram accounts of photographers I follow. So it’s been a goal of mine to shoot downtown, on the cobblestone streets and really capture the charm of this gorgeous city. Fortunately, my cousin and her husband live and work in the area, and they excitingly agreed to be my models for this couples session.

Before our vacation, I did some research and reached out to some fellow photographers who live in Charleston, and they told me of some popular streets where they shoot. One of those locations is Chalmers Street. It’s known for its cobblestones and the light is so pretty, especially when you’re shooting about 1-2 hours before sunset. We started out the session there and then moved on to Rainbow Row, which has a lot of pastel colored houses.

I found some other areas along downtown as well that had more cobblestone streets and pretty backgrounds. I’m not gonna lie – I ran into the middle of the street when the traffic slowed to grab some of these photos. Thankfully, the drivers were polite and I didn’t get run over haha!

I shot just a few more photos with the last bit of remaining light before the sun finally went down. I’m so happy with how these photos turned out, and I am looking forward to coming back for another couples session!
