It may only be February, but I can tell you that girls everywhere are already getting excited for one event this spring! Prom night!! There is so much to do, from booking your hair and make up artist, finding a cute pair of shoes, scheduling a manicure, and of course choosing the perfect dress! I have partnered with Grayce Bridal & Formal in Chattanooga to help give you the best tips for getting ready for prom!
As they say in the movies, once you find your prom dress, it’s all downhill from there. It’s important to start shopping early so you have plenty of time to look and try on what you like. Grayce Bridal starts receiving new arrivals for prom in November/December, which is when they recommend you start shopping. Most of the girls that visit the shop find their dress in January/February. So don’t worry if you’re still looking! You still have some time!
You don’t have to make an appointment to come in and try on dresses. Grayce Bridal carries a large variety of designers from JVN, Jovani, Sherri Hill and Rachel Allan. If the shop doesn’t have your size in stock, they can order it for you. When you come shop at Grayce Bridal, their mission is “to serve, celebrate and empower every single person that walks through our doors”. They have prom stylists to help you find what you love and will share what’s trending for that year. You can model the dresses in front of their large mirrors and even on their runway! If you purchase your prom dress from their shop, it will be registered. They will make sure another girl won’t be wearing the same dress and color at your prom. The staff is there to help with whatever you need, but their number one priority is to make sure you HAVE FUN!
It’s important to look your best for prom! Make sure you schedule your hair and make up appointments in advance. If you live in a city where high schools are hosting prom on the same date, a lot of appointments will quickly get booked. Making a dinner reservation at a local restaurant is just as important too. Popular local eateries will need to know how many people you are bringing in advance. It has become a trend in the last several years for a set of parents to host dinner at their house for prom. Even so, it’s smart to make these arrangements in advance. If you’re looking to hire a photographer to take pictures of your prom group, most photographers are fully booked by the end of February. A lot of photographers also shoot weddings, families, or seniors so their calendars fill up very fast in the spring!
If your dress requires alterations, it’s best to give yourself at least one month so you can make sure it fits like a glove! According to Grayce Bridal, it’s best to order the size that is closest to your measurements. Every designer has a size guide, and the staff will use this to take your measurements when ordering your dress. The shop provides their customers with a reputable list of recommended seamstresses from which to choose. Depending on how busy it is, it’s best to make an appointment for alterations as soon as you can so you have your dress back in time. Don’t forget to bring your shoes!
If you’re bringing a boutonniere for your date, you will need to order it several months in advance. Florists are very busy this time of year! Be sure to either choose flowers in a neutral color or that match the color of your dress.
Now that you have your prom dress ready to go, hair and make up is scheduled, and a photographer is booked, you can get the extra things taken care of. These small tasks may not seem important, but they are essential for a successful prom night!
Whether you’re wearing earrings, a bracelet, necklace, or even a tiara, you want to choose some fun jewelry that matches your dress. You don’t want to go overboard with your accessories, so remember that less is more.
No one wears high heels on a daily basis! Make sure you wear your prom heels around the house at least two weeks beforehand. Doing this will help break them in so you’re not walking in them for the first time on prom night. This will help prevent a blister the night of. It will help you decide if you need to buy foot pads or other accessories for your shoes.
Make sure you pack some essentials in a small purse or clutch you will be taking with you. This is something you can do the night before. Some good items to pack are bobby pins, travel spray deodorant, lip gloss, mints, tissues, Advil, and a Band-aid or two (just in case).
Your prom will be a night that you will never forget! You will have so much fun getting all dressed up, dancing with your friends and making lasting memories! No matter if you have a date or not, this is your time to enjoy one of the most important events of high school! By using these tips for getting ready for prom, you’re going to have an amazing night!
