There is nothing more beautiful than documenting a couples session around downtown Chattanooga! Our town has many iconic locations that make our city unique. Jacob’s Walnut Street Bridge proposal to his girlfriend Gussie was such a special moment! I’m honored that I could capture her on camera saying “Yes!”
Jacob moved to Atlanta in 2009 and currently works as a diesel technician for Ford. Gussie is from Atlanta and is a pediatric nurse for one of the local children’s hospitals. They met on Bumble and their first date was at a Texas Roadhouse. Jacon and Gussie aren’t big on going out to try new restaurants or bars. They enjoy staying in to relax and having food delivered.
Jacob contacted me in early June, saying he wanted to propose to his girlfriend in Chattanooga. Although they both live in Atlanta, he wanted the proposal and engagement session in Chattanooga. Gussie makes a trip to the city every year with her mom. Chattanooga is one of her favorite cities, and one of her favorite activities is to walk on the Walnut Street Bridge. It’s a nice change of pace for her from the busy city life of Atlanta.
The best way to plan a proposal as a photographer is to talk to the client on the phone. Jacob and I discussed his ideas on the time of day and the exact location to pop the question. He said their parents would be watching from afar on the Holmberg Bridge over Riverfront Parkway. Since he isn’t familiar with the Walnut Street Bridge like Gussie, he trusted me to find the best spot for the proposal.
They started their day with activities around town. Jacob tricked Gussie into thinking they were taking a boat ride on the Southern Belle. Jacob and I kept up with each other via texts to let me know when he was walking towards the bridge. I assured him I was ready to go and pretended to take scenery photos. Once Jacob got down on one knee, I turned towards them and started shooting!
Gussie was absolutely surprised! She started crying and was in disbelief that the proposal was actually happening. Their parents walked over to see them, and Gussie was again surprised they were in town. I snapped some photos of Jacob and Gussie with their parents. We then started their official engagement session!
We stayed on the Walnut Street Bridge for a while before we moved across the Holmberg Bridge to the Hunter Museum. Right at sunset, I caught the light behind them as they posed on the steps of the mansion at the museum. I also made sure to take a detailed shot of her gorgeous engagement ring! Jacob did a great job picking it out!
Congratulations Jacob and Gussie on your engagement! This Walnut Street Bridge proposal was an absolute dream for me! I can’t wait to do more! Do you have plans to propose to your girlfriend in downtown Chattanooga? Head to my contact page so we can plan details!
