One of my fondest memories from childhood is spending time in the mountains near the Ocoee River at my great-grandparent’s house. Being completely surrounded by woods and able to feel at ease with peace and tranquility was something I looked forward to every time I went to visit. Seated around the table at Thanksgiving while gazing out at the incredible view through the long glass doors was always something for which I was grateful.
When I came back to visit The Barn at Hickory Hills down the road in Cleveland from where I live, I felt that same overwhelming sense of peace. I am continuing my blog series all about wedding venues in Cleveland! As I have shown in my past blog posts, there are so many different places to hold your ceremony and reception in the area depending on your style and budget. I absolutely loved taking pictures here last year at a style shoot and was excited to just take some photos of the venue itself and what it has to offer.
Just as my great-grandparents filled their house with beautifully decorated wood and special heirlooms from their family, this venue incorporates the old and new with charm and natural beauty. One of my favorite stories from the owner’s daughter Hannah, is that when they cleared the trees on the property to make room the build the main hall, they repurposed the trees to make the long tables and some of the walls inside. I absolutely loved that!
The main hall can seat up to 150 guests with long and round tables. There is plenty of space for a buffet or plated dinner for your guests, with bringing in a caterer of your choice who has access to the full kitchen. Guests also have the option to spend cocktail hour on the wrap around porch relaxing in the rocking chairs, reminiscent of the space out front at Cracker Barrel. If you plan on a winter wedding, the venue can provide patio heaters for an extra charge so you and your guests stay warm and toasty.
There are several options around the property to hold your ceremony from “The Enchanted Forest” that reminds visitors of the wedding scene from the movie Twilight: Breaking Dawn, to the covered pavilion and fireplace, and the relatively new open air chapel and stage pavilion. It all depends on what you envision for your special day, and the owners Todd and Joan will be there to help in any way possible!
In addition to the the ceremony and reception sites, the venue offers the Farmhouse for the bride and groom and their attendants to get ready! Inside the house are four salon chairs and mirrors for everyone’s hair and makeup and plenty of rooms to get dressed for the day. Their newest feature is a small room for the bride to have a dress portrait taken by their photographer. If the brides so wishes, she can purchase a 2-day rental and have a “slumber party” the night before with her girlfriends and have access to cable and watch movies, with the house sleeping up to 6 people. And after requests from past weddings, the basement of the house has been turned into a groom’s quarters sleeping up to 6 people with bunk beds and a sectional pull out sofa, small kitchenette, full bath and cable TV and Xbox. Two perfect areas so your entire bridal party can get ready on site!
And in case you don’t have quite enough decorations necessary for your special event, the venue supplies the finishing touches with items such as table runners, glass vases, signs and even a corn hole set and antique couch at no extra cost to you.
The venue also provides a special package for catering on location, day of coordination, DJ services, and a wedding cake for up to 150 people. If the bride isn’t from the local area, this is extremely helpful for those wanting a lot of services taken care of on site versus bringing in other vendors separately.
