My Favorite Wedding Trends for 2022 | Chattanooga Wedding Photographer

If you search online for new and exciting wedding trends for 2022, you will see all kinds of ideas from wedding planners, magazine editors and event designers about what they see as being popular this year! Everyone is going to have their own opinions about colors, themes, bridal gowns, cakes, and decor. Some of those trends may be on point since the Bridal Boom of 2022 has officially started. Even though COVID is still very much in the spotlight, a lot of people have gotten their booster and are ready for “party mode” once again!

Working in the wedding industry as a photographer, I have seen a lot of different ideas that couples use for their special day! Even though I’m not the magazine editor for Martha Stewart Weddings, these are some trends that I hope will start and stick around for 2022!

Bring the outside in!

Couples still love to make sure everyone who comes goes home with something! I’m a sucker for succulents, so this is a perfect but inexpensive favor you can give your guests. With this kind of favor, you can plant it in your house in a pot for your deck and you’re doing some good for the environment.

Floral and Greenery Arches

As much as I love fresh florals, I love greenery just as much when used during the ceremony with an arch or along the chairs. It adds something to the background and when the couple uses their wedding colors, it matches their overall theme of the day.

Layered Wedding Decor

Whether or not you want to use bold colors, I love seeing table tops with lots of layers and decor. From different colored glasses to candles to chargers and flowers, you can definitely make a statement with complimenting colors and textures. No matter if you are using rich colors or lighter pastels with a metallic mixed in, decorating your tables with lots of layers makes for a more interesting reception.

All Things Vintage

I absolutely love anything vintage including movies, furniture, and jewelry! I love how classic items like rings and necklaces can connect you to the past, especially when they are things you’ve inherited from your family members. I love having my grandmother’s rings and other jewelry that have been handed down to me. I never got enough time with her when I was young, so her jewelry helps me remember her. I hope to see more vintage details this year!

Party in Style

I have noticed that more couples want to keep their wedding guests entertained after the ceremony. They are including lawn games such as Jenga, Tic Tac Toe, and Cornhole boards for the reception. Couples are also bringing in comfy chairs and sofas in addition to some woven area rugs for their guests to relax during cocktail hour.

Let’s Dance!

I noticed toward the end of last year that a lot of receptions were taking place outside. The wedding and reception would start inside, but then to move an outside patio for all the fun festivities. Wedding couples invited their guests to dance and spend the celebration outside, no matter how cold or dark it was! The bride and groom would start with the first dance, and then invite others to join them. It does get cold in the south, but this is a fun idea no matter which month you get married.

Creating A Special Moment

When I was second shooting a wedding in Gatlinburg in December of last year, I got to photograph a sweet moment between the bride’s mom and the groom. Both of their families were very close with one another. The groom had a special corsage just for his soon to be mother in law. He placed it on her wrist, and then she adjusted his tie and boutonniere. I’m not joking when I say that me and the videographer were both in tears! I know that not every family will be this connected, but I’m truly hoping for more special moments like this.
