If you have read my bio on my website, you know I love everything vintage. I love to walk around antique stores and look at all the eccentric and timeless items that people have owned through the years, especially old cameras. I have cameras owned by both of my great-grandfathers, sitting on my desk where I do my editing. My great-grandfathers are my inspiration for becoming a photographer and their cameras remind me how special they were to me.
So it’s no surprise that the Weaver’s Room at the Old Woolen Mill is one of my favorite wedding venues in Cleveland. I am always that one quirky person who is more interested in the history of the building, how and when it was built, and it’s original purpose. I love watching historical shows and I am always reading non-fiction novels about presidents and real events that took place in our country and around the world.
I have shot a couple senior sessions around the grounds outside, but I had never been inside to see the actual wedding venue. There is a lot of amazing history involved with this location. The Mill was built in 1890 and at the time, was only one of a handful of factories where the raw materials were made into the final products in the same building. After Hardwick Clothes, as it was later renamed, moved to another location in Cleveland, the building site fell into disarray. However, in the 1990’s, a restoration project began on the north end and the mill now houses some loft apartments, local businesses, and the wedding venue.
There are so many options for hosting your wedding and/or reception at the Old Woolen Mill. The Weaver’s Room, rightfully named from the men and women who used to make the clothing, is the largest space available for your event. It will seat up to 225 people and is the perfect area to host your large reception. The walls are covered with the original brick from when the building was built and strung lights and drapes are hung around the ceiling just under the original wooden beams.
For smaller intimate events, check out the Loft upstairs! This space is my favorite because of all the original floors that slightly move when you walk on them. I love this area and it’s great for retirement parties, bridal or baby showers or corporate events. There are also large wooden beams that make for a cozy and warm feel when you host your event in this room. Right outside the Loft is the Studio Suite and this space along with the Cafe/groom’s area downstairs can be added on to your rental of the Weaver’s Room so you and your bridal and groom parties have somewhere to have hair and makeup done on site and to get ready all in one place. The Studio Suite is a great option too for smaller parties and events. I love how the owners hung photos on the walls of the building from its early days! I just stood there with my camera, taking it all in and thinking about days past, about what it must have been like to work in one of the best clothing factories of its time.
When you rent the Weaver’s Room, it will include plenty of banquet, long and round tables for all of your invited guests and bridal parties as well as chairs, unlimited use of the caterer’s kitchen, and full access to the projector system so you can show photos of your and your spouse during the reception! You will also have free WIFI throughout the entire day and of course, access to the outside grounds for all of your family and portrait wedding photos. Believe me, the ideas for planning your event or wedding here are endless!
