Senior year is such a big milestone! For guys like Owen, finding the right spot to capture these memories is crucial. A senior session at the Walnut Street Bridge in downtown Chattanooga makes for an amazing backdrop for photos that stand out from the crowd. It’s one of the longest walking bridges in the world, offering stunning views of the Tennessee River and the city skyline. Its blue trusses and wooden walkway create a cool mix of textures that look great in photos. Getting ready for your senior portraits doesn’t have to be hard.
As a guy, shooting a senior session may not be your favorite thing, and mom may be the one who booked your portraits. However, I make sure all of my clients feel relaxed and comfortable in front of the camera. There’s every reason to have fun! Let’s chat about how to prep for your senior photos!
With any senior session, it’s always smart to bring multiple outfits. During my style consultations with my clients, I encourage them to wear at least one dressy and one casual outfit. Having a backup outfit is important just in case there is extra time during the session or something tears with one of the first choices. A nice button-down shirt with khakis is a great option. Adding a jacket is great because it can be used as a prop to hang over your shoulder. For a casual outfit, choose one that shows your personality. It can include a t-shirt and jeans if the weather is warmer, or a sweater in the fall and winter. Wearing solid colors works better than busy patterns. It’s best to avoid logos that can distract from your face. As long as you feel comfortable in what you’re wearing, you will enjoy your session so much more.
I love shooting at the Walnut Street Bridge because of the surrounding areas like Coolidge Park and the Hunter Museum nearby. However, if the bridge doesn’t fit your personality, then look for a location that speaks more to you. Some clients love shooting in a large field with a lot of trees or somewhere with a mountain backdrop. The place you choose must also be appropriate for the season. If your session takes place in the fall, then you may want pretty orange and red leaves in your photos. For pictures at the lake or ocean, shooting in the summer might be best.
If you want to show off even more of your personality, then I recommend including your favorite hobby or interest in your session. Some seniors play an instrument in high school and want to show off their talents in their photos. Sports are very popular, but it doesn’t have to be just football. Whether you play soccer or are a member of the cross-country team, we can take portraits of you in your uniform. Some seniors love to read or even create art. Whatever your passion, let’s document it!
If you’re ready to capture your senior year with stunning photos on the iconic Walnut Street Bridge or at your favorite Chattanooga location, I’d love to help create senior portraits that truly show who you are during this big moment in your life. These images will be ones you and your family treasure for years to come.
