Congratulations on getting engaged! You have finally found the love of your life – that perfect person who completes you in every way! You can’t wait to start planning your wedding day and the first thing you want to book is your photographer! I couldn’t agree more – it’s one of the first things we booked for our wedding and studies show that a couple books their venue and photographer first before anything else!
Once you’ve got the gorgeous ring, you want to start planning your engagement session with your spouse-to-be so you can send out Save the Date’s! But who should take your engagement photos? A friend? A family member? Another photographer who charges less for sessions?
It may be less expensive to find alternative options for your engagement photos, but the best person for your engagement session is your wedding photographer! Here are a few reasons why!
Your wedding photographer will be spending the entire day with you and your fiancé when you get married! It is important that you both get to know your photographer and vice versa before that day. You will each get the opportunity to learn about the photographer’s posing flow and how he or she works with you and your fiancé. It will also give you both a chance to see how it will be, getting your photos taken together before your wedding. Think of this time like a dry run before the big day! Your photographer can learn how you both interact with each other and what makes you both happy!
With your wedding photographer shooting your engagement session, you will know what your wedding day will look like editing wise! If you choose your wedding photographer based on their editing style whether it’s light and airy or more dark and moody vibes, then you know that your engagement and wedding photos will be consistent.
Because your wedding photographer works with a lot of couples, he or she will be able to guide you on what to wear for your engagement session. I always include a style guide for my sessions and assist my couples in any way with ideas on what to wear and make them feel comfortable in front of the camera. Have your outfits ready two weeks before your engagement session and ask your photographer any questions about wardrobe; that way, if you need to change something, you have plenty of time to shop for a new outfit or add accessories.
Be sure to ask your wedding photographer if he or she includes a complimentary engagement session with their wedding package. I do this for all of my booked packages as it is a perfect way to meet a couple and learn all I can about them before their wedding day! Make sure you hire your wedding photographer for your engagement session!

Love this! Engagement sessions are so important!
I completely agree that your wedding photographer should be the one to capture your engagement session! Or the one who captures your engagement photos should be the wedding photographer!
Uw what a great post. I love that you’re sharing this. Totally agree! Hugs to you friend.
